What papers online casinos ask for, casino by casino
Before you sign up · rules read live
An identity document, a selfie and a proof of address: those are the three papers that appear in the rules of crypto casinos. What changes from one to the next is when they are demanded and whether it is put in writing. Here is what each one says, and how to read the terms of any other casino yourself.
If you came here looking for a casino without ID, the first useful question is which papers exist on the menu at all. There are not many. Across every set of rules we have read, at most four kinds of paper turn up, and nearly always in the same order.
The four papers that can be demanded
1. A photo identity document. This is the centrepiece. The rules call it an «ID document», «identification documents» or a «valid ID». Any official document with a photograph, still in date, will do: a DNI, a passport, the TIE held by foreign residents, or another EU country's national card. Some processes take a driving licence and some do not; the passport is the one that never fails.
2. A selfie. A photograph of your face, sometimes holding the document, sometimes a short video. It exists to confirm that whoever uploads the document owns it. Rakebit names it in its terms as a «high-quality photo or selfie».
3. A proof of address. A recent document carrying your name and your address: a utility bill, a bank statement or a certificate of municipal registration. Rakebit gives «utility bills» as its example.
4. A source of funds. Only for large amounts, or for accounts the casino treats as risky. A bank statement, a payslip, or the purchase history of the exchange where you bought the coins. None of the top four casinos on our list names it in the rules we could read, though it is common elsewhere.
When each casino asks
The table gathers what the terms said when we read them live on 18 and 19 September 2026. Nothing is assumed: if a casino says nothing, we say so.
| Casino | When they are demanded | Which papers the rules name | Where it says so |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vave | Before any payout, at its discretion | It names none | Clause 8.7 |
| Rakebit | First withdrawal | Identity document, selfie, proof of address | Terms of use |
| Bitsler | At any moment | Proof of age, identity document | Clause 4.3 |
| Wild Fortune | Before playing with bitcoin | Valid identity document | Clause 18.1 |
| Bitcasino.io | Withdrawals over €2,500 | It names none | Clause 6.6 |
| The other 9 | Rules not read live, or not one clause about verification | ||
There are four kinds of moment:
- At the first withdrawal. The most convenient kind to know about. Rakebit puts it this way: document, selfie and proof of address when the first withdrawal is claimed.
- Above an amount. Bitcasino.io runs extra verification on withdrawals above €2,500 (clause 6.6). Below that the written rule does not bind it, though it still reserves the right to ask.
- Before play. Wild Fortune requires bitcoin players to hold a valid document before playing (clause 18.1). Not a casino without ID in that case.
- At its discretion. Bitsler (clause 4.3) and Vave (clause 8.7) keep the right to ask when they see fit. Vave allows 14 days.
Why none of them says «DNI»
It may surprise you: not one of the 13 casinos on our turn board names the Spanish DNI or the NIE. The reason is simple. These are casinos licensed in Curaçao or Anjouan, taking players from many countries, and their terms are written in English for all of them at once. They say «identity document» and no more.
For you that carries an advantage. If you hold no Spanish DNI, no written rule shuts you out: a passport, a TIE or a European national card does the same job. We go through it case by case in foreign residents: NIE, TIE and passport.
| What you hold | Who it is for | Photo on it? | What to upload |
|---|---|---|---|
| DNI | Spanish nationals | ✓ | A photo of both sides. It is what almost every form expects from a Spanish resident. |
| Passport | Anyone | ✓ | The photo page, whole and without glare. It is the document every verification process we have seen accepts. |
| TIE | Non-EU residents | ✓ | The foreigner identity card, with a photo. Upload both sides; if the form does not recognise it, use the passport. |
| EU registration certificate | EU, EEA or Switzerland | — | It proves residence and carries the NIE, but it is not a photo document. Send it alongside a passport or your own country’s identity card. |
| National EU identity card | EU, EEA or Switzerland | ✓ | Your country’s identity card works as the photo document; the green certificate goes with it as proof of residence. |
| The NIE number alone | Anyone | — | The NIE is a number, not a document. Type it if the form asks, but it will not verify the account. |
How to find the clause at any casino
If a casino is not on our list, you can run the check yourself in ten minutes:
- Open the terms and conditions. They are usually linked in the footer as «Terms», «Terms and Conditions» or «General Terms».
- Search for these words with Ctrl+F: «KYC», «verification», «identity», «documents», «proof of address», «source of funds».
- Write down the clause number and copy the sentence. If something is demanded later that is not there, you have an answer ready.
- Look for a KYC or AML policy too, if it exists as a separate page. It is sometimes more specific than the terms, as it is at Rakebit.
- Compare with the front page and the questions section. Where they disagree, the terms win.
One warning: if the terms say nothing about verification, that does not mean the casino will never ask for papers. It means it can ask whenever it likes without having warned you. BetFury is the example: active licence, readable terms, and not a word on when or with what.
What to do with the papers before they are demanded
Having them ready commits you to nothing, but it saves days when the request lands with a withdrawal waiting:
- A photo of the document in good light, no glare, all four corners visible. Both sides if it is a card.
- A proof of address from the last three months, in PDF if you can, whole and uncropped.
- The selfie, better taken on the spot, because many processes want it live from the camera.
On how to handle those copies, including marking them with the casino's name and the date, there is a guide in what they do with your ID. And on the two papers that get refused most, in proof of address and selfie.
What should never be demanded of you
Some requests appear in no legitimate verification clause anywhere:
- the private keys or seed phrase of your wallet;
- the password to your bank or your exchange;
- a photo of your card with every number and the CVV showing;
- an extra deposit to «verify» or «unlock» the account.
If any of these is asked of you, it is not a verification. Stop there, withdraw what you can and send nothing more. And if you doubt the casino is who it says it is, start by checking its licence.
